Bilingual Education and English as a Second Language
Today's English language learners will dramatically impact the future of our nation. All limited English proficient students must acquire the English skills necessary for academic success and ultimately for success in a global, multicultural, and multilingual society.
The mission of Quinlan ISD's Bilingual Education and English as a Second Language program is to ensure that all English language learners have access to a quality education that enables them to achieve their full potential and fully participate now and in the future in the social, economic, and educational opportunities of our state and nation.
The goals of the bilingual program are:
- high linguistic proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in two languages
- high linguistic academic proficiency (content area) in two languages
- positive cross-cultural attitudes, biculturalism
- mastering the essential knowledge and skills required by the state
The goal of the ESL program is to enable limited English proficient students to become academically proficient in listening, speaking, reading, and writing through the development of fluency and literacy skills in English. The program uses instructional approaches designed to meet the needs of limited English proficient student by promoting cross-cultural awareness, high academic achievement, and providing linguistic accommodations. The curriculum content of the program shall be based upon the essential knowledge and skill required by the state.
