School Health Advisory Council (SHAC)

As a part of our District of Innovation plan, the SHAC will now be a part of the District Improvement Committee and will only meet one time per year. The District is small and the Council is already familiar with the needs of students and values within the community. This allows members of the QISD District Improvement Committee to address the district's health education needs as they are aware of the needs of the district and the students. This will decrease the number of meetings and the number of committees required by law and will better serve this community.

Vending Machines (All Grade Levels)
The district has adopted and implemented the state and federal policies for food service, including guidelines to restrict student access to vending machines. For more information regarding these policies and guidelines, see the director of Food Service [See policy FFA for more information.]

Tobacco and E-Cigarettes Prohibited (All Grade Levels and All Others on School Property) Students are prohibited from possessing or using any type of tobacco product, electronic cigarette (e-cigarette), or any other electronic vaporizing device while on school property or while attending an off-campus school-related activity. The district and its staff strictly enforce prohibitions against the use of all tobacco products, e-cigarettes, or any other electronic vaporizing device by students and all others on school property and at school-sponsored and school-related activities. [See the Student Code of Conduct and policies FNCD and GKA for more information.]

Physical Fitness Assessment (Grades 3–12)
Annually, the district will conduct a physical fitness assessment of students in grades 3–12 who are enrolled in a physical education course or a course for which physical education credit is awarded. At the end of the school year, a parent may submit a written request to obtain the results of his or her child’s physical fitness assessment conducted during the school year by contacting the campus principal.

Physical Activity Requirements
Elementary School
The district will ensure that students in full-day prekindergarten–grade 5 engage in moderate or vigorous physical activity for at least 30 minutes per day or 135 minutes per week, in accordance with policies at EHAB, EHAC, EHBG, and FFA. For additional information on the district’s elementary school student physical activity programs and requirements, please see the principal.
Junior High/Middle School
The district will ensure that students in middle or junior high school will engage in 30 minutes of moderate or vigorous physical activity per day for at least four semesters, in accordance with policies at EHAB, EHAC, EHBG, and FFA. For additional information on the district’s junior high and middle school student physical activity programs and requirements, please see the principal.

Title I

The goal of Title I is to ensure that all children have an equal opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach proficiency on state academic achievement assessments.

The eligibility of a school to receive Title I services is determined by the percentage of students receiving free or reduced-cost meals and the percentage of students that have demonstrated an academic need for services. After a campus qualifies as a Title I school, students generally receive instruction in small groups of ten or fewer by a highly qualified teacher. The Title I classes are supplemental and do not take the place of regular classroom instruction.

Family Engagement

A strong component of the Title I program is the family/school relationship. Each campus works with families to support student success by offering multiple parent engagement opportunities throughout the school year. Before you volunteer, you must complete a criminal background check. This helps to keep students safe at our schools.

One shared goal is to focus on communication. To support the partnership between school and home, please keep your child's teacher informed about family changes that may affect your child and read the information that is sent home. If questions come up throughout the school year, please contact your child's teacher or school staff.

It is exciting and very beneficial to have additional staff and resources from Title I at your child's school. With the combined efforts of students, families and a committed staff of teachers, all children in Quinlan ISD can achieve success! If you have any questions about Title I Parent Involvement, or for more information, please contact your campus administrator.
