Smith Middle School is in the strength of character to make the right choices in in Nigeria that we already have so it would have to take it before the Border you think it's already been approved or when the fentanyl fart women using Wheatley if you look at those glasses the way they're designing if you go to buy used.com and said all those videos and things you see on TV quite a bit if I took a hundred of their character traits and wrote a lesson for each one and we have three blocks of 33 and if let's do like seven eight nine 10 11 12 so every three years are revisiting that same character created different point in their life along with the other ones did they get to the years so it's very important I believe in you something as simple as making the right choice and something or is, complex is the importance of gratitude for things that happen to you but the lessons are designed to be quick easy functional for the teacher about them having to create an extra one page lesson even with the questions asked students for responses so that they don't have to go work and create a lesson something is leaking tedious on when they've already got so many things to do call Rafa. natural high and I think I even made it to last year sent that last night for the entire staff at one time about to finish tool kit and several appearances bring that up at our next Ministry or meeting we already have 8110 yeah definitely it's already on our Whip and the last page the link to it and I think about these character lessons and the drug awareness lessons they're all free resource I've not been found you you looking somebody stuff where are kids that are in 1,000 2,000 3,000 dollars and then you get these out I was going through we do different things at different levels I got to look at it specially natural high they are just so well prepared lessons and Beyond scientific research base their their curriculum and stuff that they have models they have as far as Mills mental health mental awareness is is no research base so it's not just some guy out here to start the program it so you know you very well Santa Clarita post program to drug awareness in making the right decision and stuff so it's free someone who's actually cares about making a difference in society well if y'all are y'all interested in and the more information I get to me the better especially Fentanyl and methamphetamine okay I need to bring it up 105 Memphis time my name is Dominic tierno since I graduated high school in 2014 I've had the great honor of directing a number of documentary films about drugs and drug addiction our mission is to revolutionize drug education by telling realized make one of the most when was that we've ever seen the beginning of summer in 2020 I came across this article 14 year old kid from the town I grew up in had died and what appeared to be a drug overdose is a smart funny guy who like issues decided that he would turn to drugs to see if he can help himself with that what happened was it went and bought this pill Oxycontin pill the guy had known that pill might need the pain of what he was going through mentally well you didn't know it but that Oxycontin pill wasn't a real Oxycontin pill it was a fake pill it look just like the pill that you wanted it instead of Oxycontin it was made with fentanyl a synthetic opioid known to be 50 to 100 times the strength of morphine that one pill you took that night kill him almost instantly his mom found bedroom the next before I can even finish that article I'm scrolling through and I see another Link Card not far away around the same time another 14 year old dead from Fentanyl and then it all made sense I saw another kid I saw high school students college students young adults all reason all over the country call Jed so I'm looking at that and I'm saying he's not just normal overdose death people think they're taking one drug and turns out they're being too why did we not heard about this it's a drug 50 times more potent than heroin we haven't been talking about it back in 2000 only about 3 now Alexander. I wish she understood that fentanyl poisoning is real and that every time we try something you're playing with you kid that was just tried to as a mom of the kid that died just wanting to experiment but I don't know how to do that I won't be there his passing it would crush them you never intended for me to find him on his bedroom floor Alex we all the way on the stretcher and put into an ambulance the images that I've left with of that day replaying my mind on a regular basis don't wait to tell your best friend you. this would be how much cocaine somebody would have to ingest to kill them this is the approximate number of prescription pills Sherwin Fentanyl you got to bring a camera up your real close to it to see it this month fentanyl would kill you and I they put fentanyl in cocaine they put on heroin fentanyl as we already talked about how it feels it's odorless and when you find out it's there it's too late you won't even know it you'll be dead 2500 people would be killed by that amount of Fentanyl I was a police officer for 31 years and during my time in Narcotics I've never heard of fentanyl in homicide I saw many many tragic things I saw people that were killed by shooting stabbing spree nothing that I saw that particular time would have never prepared mean go to work stupid Forever Jessica didn't want to die she had everything to live for Jessica knew about potential over that you know from talking to just get spoken to her friends about being a what they've got infiltrating fees fentanyl just last year we see snow. most people start by searching for what they think are prescription medications. That's what they have but we have to be careful about is what you're asking for and what you get you're buying the stuff from somebody online their bottom line is they don't have your best interest in mind will tell you whatever you want to hear and less you're getting these drugs your doctor or a licensed Pharmacy in a bottle that has your name on it you may as well shoot these drugs I think you're not getting the real thing Sentinels obviously the counterfeit pills that are out there we're starting to see it showing up now in marijuana people who make the stuff we're putting the fence they're going to trick you into thinking you're getting some take you down that rabbit hole so you can get you hooked how do you become a magic because to that your one of those times you're going to get enough Fentanyl Alex was in her bedroom at night ready for bed social media find a drug dealer she had what she thought was oxycodones deliver still had enough to kill five people my daughter took half of this pill died instantly it is that my life was changed forever my last memory of my daughter superb be wheeled out on a gurney call my daughter brought into this world play Charly Bliss Brook at four daughters my beautiful wife every time we take a family picture I don't see who's there I see who's missing tonight to dying cuz you know that's what your heart will be made whole again end of the world it's March 31st and that evening was one of those special he began had in a long time I told him to come downstairs that one of the other one I don't know why came down the stairs and he hugged me and he said that I'm so sorry for all the things that I had put you through in the past and that's it don't worry about it Daniel you're just a kid and you're just learning but you're going places you got a great future have no idea my dad tonight love you good night son I love you too see you tomorrow morning next day by 8 when I walked into line position facing up up against the headboard with his hands over his chest and I saw his eyes had a little blue on top of his lips I screamed at the very top of my lungs call the paramedics They Carried him down the stairs and put them on the first flooring started getting chest compressions and then they took him to Los Angeles children's hospital where we were put in the waiting room later on that evening doctor's cave not coming back I couldn't save my son Daniel my son is gone it wasn't supposed to be this way he was supposed to graduate from high school this year if you love yourself you respect yourself you love life you have a choice because it is between life or deck this is do a joke you can and will how do I know this I can tell you that I meant thousands upon thousands upon thousands of parenting Nationwide I wish somebody has sat me down and had this talk with me about what fentanyl does to people I didn't get that chance you do you know there's always been one main problem with the films that we make and it's the reason why we try to keep them as real and is relatable as possible people just Soca and it will not happen talking about people because of one choice they didn't know what in their life fentanyl is coming for anyone and everyone so the most important message then I can give young adults anybody in the same old message referred NS to really get serious about 9 easy back when we first started I was telling kids not to use drugs because you might get hooked you might get addicted don't try. you might ask another chance one choice is all it takes you don't believe that I guarantee you at this point there was someone very soon which state be here right now it said don't do it so my question for you is are you going to listen will it be your family your friends wishing I could have been there this is my son Alexander he died at 14 years old from fentanyl poisoning she was Alex she was murdered at 20 years old by a drug dealer Who Sold her a counterfeit Hill made a fence this is my send Daniel Joseph Arthur Johnson killed at the age of 16 by illicit Fentanyl but that's no that's not a that's why we're meeting and it really gets to you but somehow we're trying to we try to have a parent awareness night last year and we literally have one family show as well. teacher caught her daughter but they I don't know how else to reach them so by of doing stuff for the curriculum for the kids hopefully that's going to help and if possible I don't know if they'll allow us to put those the page or something to just do that video of the others character posters you're not exempt well she asked about a video that can be shown in a classroom that's what we were saying it. I was wondering if we can put it on my first started those several years I know you have 15-20 parents there overtimes Christopher Colby like you said it's good to get 230 up me to see you change time to know us I was having at 6 are you ready for school thinking more yeah I've done virtual meetings a week recorded on the Wii the Destroyer came from we did not have someone that had we do not have the opportunities for her parents to come from things like this like we have here and I think it's a resource that how do we sleeping to them I will say one thing you do back before covid we were doing the the father child pizza night we would literally have 550-600 people to go up food was involved with a now I know it was a funding exchange of what we can do you know if that's the name of that Cole didn't get that pretty hard after that but the way we used to fund that is kind of been taken away by the state now and stuff but yeah we we would have a huge turnout and you can take something like this you know cuz we talked about the importance of parent involvement in Port is it bothers me about their kids lives are we opened up to Mom's grandparents on cuz whoever wanted to be that role model in those kids live in the first year we did a whole lot PowerPoint that got born we got to where we spend about 10-15 minutes just talk his  and letting them spend time with her kids and walking around and just talkin with him that seemed to work better than anything that you can take something like that I think everybody be glued to it for what 18 Lee was something valuable but like I said we got to go cuz we serve pizza chips and cokes and they were lined up out the door at the high school get into this know 20 30 minutes just to get a bicycle line and if we involve food their phone like we didn't go to it but my kids had different activities so many kids so involved in weather I mean theater alone find idea fishing it out on social media just have to see make sure that this is one there's some copyright issues and things that we would have to check into if that's just a YouTube video but you could post it on Facebook or anything that was one that nurse administrator group that was one of the videos that they were using their awareness how to do a row without a I don't know I can and I mean I can definitely find out and ask from what from what I understood just without you know they they decided on the week or the day whatever and then you know started in the certain particular class and make sure that it was shared with all the students in every you know she's saying what time you run things through like maybe a second or third. You had all three die but then the thing is you have to be able to provide wanted to show a video trust me there's a chance that kids that I was give me a millimeter side when we first came up I didn't want to just be something watch this expectation of discussion whatever processing hat in my mind I'm hanging you say there. things to do but I got all the things I can woman answering questions no just very quickly you say one more thing one more thing when they've got more on their plate right now and take care of and then you had one more thing you think it's that simple well you know haha yeah say there are counselors and I know you do care what I do to say sit down and chit chat in your office but interesting to me that when this came out there was no opt out of options for parents yet all of the other than highly important parents were able to opt out of to help cheeks not overnight but it was a long time ago but when I was in school you could opt out my dad did not allow me to hear anything that was related to any drug you know so I wouldn't I know not all parents to until I know even just being in the schools and my kids being friends like it's more important for those kids have the information because give it to the parent that doesn't mean it's actually going to be I'm the mom and I'm like in my office even is like do the questions come up like as a pet I like for my kids I like to know what my kids are hearing but I also want them to bring it or I can say so having on both sides it's always helpful to you cuz you don't ever know like how a 4-3 or something how do you get the parents play Oh even in my own head my kids are good kids my kids I have Medicaid Georgia kids I'm pretty sure I watched a video on fentanyl being like they look like they are here and I can just touch it what I don't get this is not the four can you survive well anywhere it could be where is the stuff coming from if it's coming from China then maybe they are trying to kill us put it out there so when I say you like prescription you should ever by like 4 the last setting they're not even correct measurements are doing so lacing it with that but even fentanyl just touching it what they do Alice is they put it in these man-made pills to increase the like Euphoria feeling and the high because they want you to come back okay my friend if they want to stay in business if it gets them a better High it depresses your respiratory that's why your nurse has to sit and watch her respirations make sure you're not getting too depressed I'm people that have lung issues that their lungs are full do give him a little bit of morphine to keep them from feeling like they're drowning and so whenever these people are taking medication pills that are been made by someone that's not regulated nothing in one pill and then so but people that are taking it that are prescribed as a prescribed dose if they've learned that it's highly highly addictive and that somebody that's being regulated by the doctor and this and that but then doctor stop giving it to him they're addicted they start ordering online at seeing others on the way it's made is not regulated be monitored by the position I told Alice my daughter she just she's a medical school she has finished her rotation at the ward over in Tarrant County and she was telling me I had no idea but they had a teenager overdose and they had to wear like full gear everything could even working on an autopsy if they had come in contact with that it could have killed them so many things so many different ways that they're using it time out you know here a letter for Fentanyl patches from some people that are highly addicted to it will take the patch and they'll chew it and some will swallow it well they someone says their rescue person comes and they administer Narcan will then two minutes later they're down again that patch is is is time release so they're just going to keep on getting it and keep on getting it that's why there's so many different things that we have to watch for you know with our with our kids it's it's not just things that they could smoke or eat or whatever it's it's you're putting it in anything and it's scary you know it's scary they kissed you know if they use a vape and you ask him what's in it just so it's okay but to me finish things about that going around or they wouldn't someone would just like white bear go to hospital or I need a what's the first thing you do when you get it's settled then you've got a liquid in the powder and that's going to determine your skin I always feel so great when I was eating a lot of these kids mentality is well I have no so if I start feeling it I'll take it and being a nurse I knew it was suppressing my respiratory and I murder my husband and so I wouldn't hit the button anymore and they're liking it I couldn't and then as I knew it was depressing me and that was just it was after his surgery I never had heard really bad  became familiar with it with the news and stuff this last year and they were telling him he was getting a little bit of that I'm like freaking out. not what you think. You're usually with one-on-one with them so I mean I know we all agree that this is something that needs to be really taught the best we can in our parents has a lot of them just don't know they don't they don't know that they can get it in the face and so they find a vape in their kids room my father just being a kid well scared me on that video is he said that they're finding it in marijuana now. And not regulated at all even here Texas ardley you know and that's that's a really scary one to me and it's not just cute know that's never going to get out for a parent's with him one of our kids they know when I teach a class of a methamphetamine the kids I have a question answer and almost every class will what about marijuana is being made legal in some states have the simple  question is making something illegal make write those kids can tell you know it doesn't you know some of the kids know that you just because it's legal is not right it's just the pressure is put on our kids and Target a nice intention for like 34 years old now but considered a single most addictive substance ever known to mankind 98.3% people try once are considered addicted 98.8 99.8 and people tried twice and I've never talked to anyone in the clinical setting tried it three times is not considered addicted to it and the whole goal behind this money and drug dealer gives you something else has it out for free the first few times and all by now it now it's $25 or $10 how you get the money still with your mom and grandmother whatever do you want this you can pay me then we ask you to do that care about you know or they care about Monday and the kids can figure that out the 6th grade they know it's what it's wrong it's just the pressure that's put on them and you have to give them the strength of character to be able I know it's want to say no not just say no when they need to know that they don't have to depend on him up with the pinion to make them a strong person I was talking to the staff members that came to give the flu shot this morning and we were talking about getting all and now you can buy it over the counter you don't have to have a prescription for it anymore oh yes sorry you can buy Narcan over the counter the overdose but they were saying now that they're really pushing it for the parents and grandparents in their life we don't need that they're like so now they're turning it around doing what if your teenager gets ahold of your pain medicine so they're really trying to push you know families to have it in the home in case you know not really fitting all but just pain medicine. So if you haven't had a chance on Netflix watch pain killer it's about the introduction of cotton in the and how does a normal Family Guy and what's and how team and then that you heard them say because you go they get so addicted to Ice House I mean it was I would think I just want when oxy was going on and I never realized I'm going to guess if you work face with it or didn't have any ID that was on it and you know for some surgery I had no idea it was that bad until I watch that show crazy the weekend definitely will figure out some way to take Dad the video and then maybe have a. Or we do something reminder how much I don't know engaged the parents are with the emails in life I mean clicks or how many of them actually want to do. It's about that not as much as a probably going to be ignored and if it's just posted on social media I think your participation would be fairly like and I know David and I both went to Christian colleges number of Chapel hours every year every student that that went there was required to to have and I don't know if you know if the school districts would never ever required hey we're going to require you to attend a certain number of you know I don't know call it character hours or whatever where they have options where maybe his class or yeah whatever we're once a month or twice a month they have an opportunity to get those hours and do those real yeah I mean I can pay it so they have to get certain number of community service hours or are you going to support you required to go get a physical before they the year you know it's true I've always wanted to know cuz like you said require I used to think me and when I really child it or whatever yeah require the parents had so many hours to come volunteer the parent you need to come or Thor can you can't really hold their hand to the fire what causes talk to something like truancy where the parents being fined and the student and part of their probation hours or whatever or to Compass and character is we are currently I'm a boo-boo just dark hair Bishop a blast to truancy class is supposed to have 11 in one class and 13 and the other add one show up in 2 Olay complete hold that permanent and the same thing with your friends scary stuff homemade are you or if your child has so many jets yeah you could reduce they have I said that they attended. Yeah just wait or if your second a fender on a vague and then you know because we have 42 state federal government the fact that too many kids are flags on certain things we have to have a set plan or whatever and so we've been looking at different ways to really educate kids cuz there's no education behind it especially with Vapes in the law changed in Vapes you know if they get caught with the bank now it's automatic daup we're used to they would get to like I said and then they be now it's automatic placement I'm so what training piece do you don't see any what's a joey TV proactive instead of reactive but we can do both could be reactive if it happens but try to get it out of head to the fort. do they have schools that say they don't have a problem what is ignoring it because we add a meeting with area schools with there are several that we had won all year know you're not charged so you even even now that it's kind of rolled out in there going you don't feel like it's lower than alcohol in the bathroom at the beginning of the year the first one was a little bit flash couple I think we made it like two weeks three but and there's like maybe a couple of week and I will all of them I think they're a little bit when it so yes the problem is still there they just gotten they think they've outsmarted us there's only so much the sensors are silly thing 28 they don't know which fast will they don't know until they pass away with it by now I'm sure with it or whatever do they have to have some type of teaching about that is there something that done as part of the continent a dancer when they try to get the beer at your house or whatever it is. special cuz they have to have a what the intake is it is pretty but there have to have a parent there and I've been there busy with children while they've had the intakes in there but he's very thorough yeah yeah I used to go over a couple times a year to talk to him but it's it's just on the character Trevor had to get several different types of one but the doctor Madden several schools probably the majority of school you going to be a piece and shut do you work do you have to get out it's not a doctor Madden does he brings in speakers he brings in program he brings in judges he brings in military people counselors myself people homeless kid and teach him you know the actual consequences and values and give them tools at when I get back to the campus they're not playing them back with him yet you ain't still happen he's not like normal with the AP instructors he didn't just do your work do your time get out and get it they're giving a lot of different training some different people so they hid from several different ask there that the fentanyl became a debate kids like oh I just get the base is it whatever you think. it can be laced with anything so you're buying it from somebody just do your friends hanchett how do you know where their friend got it or what's in it that's what kids don't realize it's not they tell me that I'll so where did you get it you know when they were they don't they don't care who it is it's just they want to fit in and they want to do it just because they want to do it in and they have no idea and then when I talk to him and I start telling different things I seen some of them not all of them some of them look at me in their eyes bug out of their head and not they visibly get scared and I said you have no idea what you just did and then some of them are like how to make it too big of a deal out of it and they're the ones that know what's in it and you know what it's waiting on the third vein and I both we have kids come in that we have to assess that has been caught with a vape when we both talked to them without hitting all and you know what it can do unless she said you know so my responses to it and some just roll their eyes I test the date to see what's in the news you can't do it unless you're part of it or they suspect you so many rules tell me you're in second grade at that. Most of them are doing the same thing marijuana where they take their parents and they still so when we talked about going to class and this is the thing I hate Cinemark getting it at home environment that we have is our kids at home and so yes I want to reach the parents and get out but sometimes we go to provide the defense for kids to come to the fair I'm going to say that I already text my husband but you need to watch this so we'll get back with you after y'all just left the $10 off 10 to have that on my calendar I saved it to do it prior to our stuff became so we're going to do you freaking lamb is for that for health education and we've had nutrition come in I thought about this year we have a lot of parents in town that are concerned and I would start getting cooler now but a lot of parents are concerned about the Heat and the kids exercising out in the Heat and the bathroom doing this or doing that especially in our sport so I didn't know if y'all would be interested in her Tupac and kind of let everybody know what they I require and how they handle different things that I think that's a great idea where did Trevor injured himself in football we're having to deal with the trainer everyday and he's a really great really smart and Trevor can do therapy at school to go anywhere it's just it's been nice I'm going to ask him to come in then we'll have one is there another topic that y'all would like to have brought up or just got us one of our meeting have there were there any others Vape laws or anything changed over the summer that we need to address you know that we need to know about or is everything kind of stays the same this year the automatic that was already again I do with the fentanyl we're going to have to change our policy a little bit they want to know where it's still like our policy has include where it's stored if a 99 gives it you have to report it within just any medication stop the rain well it's the start of the other include I can is stored if I 9 nurse gives the Narcan it have to be reported to the nurse and administration within 10 days we also have to have a policy of How It's discarded so that's going to just be some work on our medication y'all get out I mean you'll probably have red regulations about who can give your kids the medicine that they bring in and stuff such a big deal but Narcan is kind of like an 80 so I don't know if we're going to have to come up with a we're going to have to be training more people to be able to give the Narcan defibrillator thing to have to train a bunch of anybody that's going to be taking a child off Camp medication administration is different but with Miss if this is an emergency mad isn't it it's not something that you're not going to do it no it's is but maybe I don't know if we could send me of Bev and I can do an instruction cuz it's really I mean not anything that they would have to come to me face-to-face it's it's literally a nose spray you know you don't prime it you don't do anything you put it in the nostril where can I trade in Lane cap I know that came up with it I just knew that I had come alright alright so for our next meeting I guess we'll follow up on how that's going to take a bath with the after you talk to that man and then see whenever trainer he's able to come in and I'll email everybody everybody come the wolves will set it up that way cuz I don't know I haven't pinpointed one so you wait after football he had mentioned to that if he came in for if we might have to have a little later in the day so I'll just I'll give him and ask him what days he has and when it's available and then I can just email all y'all back the off the light with this okay just kind of just have an open just kind of laid things out sometimes it's easier to do it
