their dreams and go to think about their future so add the waiting one day from high school going off the college military or trade school or Landing that dream job that they always want it or even I'm going down getting married starting a family and we want them to dream and think about what the look like silly they have a vision for their life and they know what they're aiming for and nowadays students realize that they have to be very very focused I'm to be able to reach the strings and they have to be able to wait a lot of distractions and in this program and throughout our sexual health programs we talked about one big distraction and that is  and if you really think about it depending on how they handle that one big distractions it could determine whether future dreams and goals wealth we're going to answer a question in this program why wait for or I didn't ultimately we answer it by showing them the risk and involved with sexual activity as a teenager so we'll start off with this first Redskin that is the most obvious one teen pregnancy now as we jump into the conversation about we do let the students know that this content is for all students so no matter your background or is your race no matter if your heterosexuality or part of the lgbtqia plus Community Austin's have a bright and all students are Subs if you be distracted by 6 so let's look at this person's actions it is teen pregnancy and as we start off this conversation we put on this put this picture up of his happy family because I want them to hear that starting a family that's amazing great there's nothing wrong with it but think about having to do that as a teenager when you're not fully prepared on the huge responsibility you'll have to face these parents convicts face difficult time staying on track with their education they make because they now have this huge responsibility so we'll talk about some of the difficult pieces of being a teen parents I would ask them this question what is something that you could do that give you a 100% guarantee that you would not have to deal with a team pregnancy now for sixth graders that usually give us the answer that we're looking for but the 12th graders they usually rattle off different type of contraception will take time I'm in this part of the program to talk about contraception on 6th graders will not get this content this before 7 to 12 graders will talk about birth control according to the CDC of the of the birth control pills it is about 93% effective when it comes to checking to gets a pregnancy now that's not giving them a 100% guaranteed give zero collection against STD from another answer we hear when we ask this question is what about condom well according to the CDC condoms are only 87% effective that means about one out of seven girl still get pregnant with typical condom you so again that's not giving them a one-hundred-percent foolproof protection but they are now as we talked about Brooke the birth control pill and condoms will they were juice the rest of her pregnancy yes but we don't want them to think that that's going to give them that guarantee protection but there is something that they can do that works every time that we'll give them that one hundred percent foolproof protection and that is to wait to have now when we usually the automatically they're thinking or how long is it when I go off the college or become a legal adult how long do I have to wait for Luke will say that the CDC with STD everything that they involved with they suggest that is best between two people who are in a long-term mutually monogamous relationship now that's a mouthful so we'll break it down I even further I'm all that means is that they found that is best between two people who love each other and you are committed to each other for life and don't like long-term committed relationships are we stayed in a marriage and you know anyone to get married and there's a some students that I'm there looking forward to marriage that is a dream that is a goal from him but it's like no way I don't want to get married that's not something that they want for their lot or research even as teenagers delay and sexual activity until they're older and it's still there in that long-term committed relationship there's benefits as well as a teenager to delay session go to activity they are less likely to get involved with other risky Behavior like drinking drugs and smoking so it's interesting we left for them to see that's making a decision to wait in this one area could help them make healthy decisions in other areas as well now as we talk about we are not oblivious to the fact that there may be some students that we talked to that has had some difficult situations regarding maybe they've been sexually abused so we'll take a moment and tell them if you think what the heck that's your story check your sexual activity that one is that it's not your fault no matter what happened no matter the circumstance sexual abuse is never your fault and you'll be surprised at the comments we get where students say thank you for telling me that it was not my fault we also let them know that  is special it's a special Act of intimacy and bonded but if you were sexually abused as someone Street  and something special know they didn't but the good news is that overtime and with the help of others you can begin to work. your past and looks forward to share that special bond of intimacy with someone that you're married or someone that you have been a long-term committed relationship with and lastly we let them know that sexual abuse is against the law so we will urge them and encouraged talk to their parents are talk to a trusted adult in their life maybe go to school tell tell your favorite teacher counselor principal any trusted adult will love to help prevent this from happening again I'm in your future now we talked about some of the risks we talked about teen pregnancy sexually transmitted diseases I want to share with them the latest statistics from the CDC within a year they found a 13 million new STD case is being reported among young people ages 15 to 24 now if we would break that down even more that's over by about 1 million new STD I'm being reported every month now when we share those big numbers with the students you want them to know I'm just really have prevalent on STDs are and I'm the oldest especially high schoolers you like whoa a lot of SPD and I'm just kind of weird because I know people having but I don't know anyone with an STD but if that number is really as big as you say about her say it is I should know some people with an STD right well the reason why why are many teenagers do not know other teens with an STD is because most people are asymptomatic so they have an STD they're carrying the disease they have no signs and symptoms the disease and they're still highly contagious I will talk to them about the asymptomatic making sure of STDs and I'm what that means and we'll even go born.dec about a number of STDs you're on the screen will talk about hiv-aids chlamydia general herpes and HPV I want to zoom in on media we do show images with this I'm STD we let them know that if a person has chlamydia it goes untreated it could cause infertility and we'll show them what that could look like in a male and a female now if a guy has chlamydia that has gone untreated it could cause a low sperm count and now I will show him what's that looks like now for you to know 6th graders will not get these images that I'm showing this is just for 7 the 12th graders so will show that will remind them that in order for pregnancy to occur sperm have to join with the female egg and if a guy has low sperm count and could make it difficult and sometimes impossible for that to happen we'll show them what infertility it look like in a female so who's first show them the internal reproductive system of a female and what it looks like this picture where she were showing them will let them know there's nothing wrong with this female this is perfectly healthy normal reproductive again 6th graders won't get this image will label the parts just so they know exactly what they're looking at that commuter assorted sloping to Jim here on the ovaries and I swerved are the ovaries will have to be it's an egg and we'll draw one there on the screen and then egg is going to be drawn into the fallopian tube and it's Brutal ization by the sperm if it's going to happen that usually wear takes because we want to compare to this next picture the next pictures of the young lady who got chlamydia as a teenager to see how different things look for her will bring their attention to the blue dock diarrhea that is a result from a test a doctor ditch to this young lady she's married and mature and ready to start a family. You went to the doctors and they. Something's going on at like we cannot get pregnant through the dr. ransom says he injected her reproductive system was blue dye and that blue dye started at her uterus and then it's slow down her swollen fallopian tube and if things were working properly that blue dye will have to load out into her abdominal cavity but instead it all collected at the end of that fallopian tube be chlamydia had infected the fallopian tube the doctor that she pretty pictures with the said that she underwent three surgeries to try to correct the problem she and her husband spent thousands of dollars and the doctor said unfortunately it looks like she will never be able to get pregnant because she had chlamydia and haven't gone to lunch I'm for all of these years now we show them these in how devastating chlamydia to be and how real it could be for a person now what he's been looking at so far has been Middle School templates for a success High School template look a little different it had we don't use the cell phone look as more of a window Bay look and I just want you all to see the difference in just a few slides from the full action play I wish are the statistics for both men on high schoolers that one out of five sexually active young people get this STD every year I think about it it's not one out of 10 or 100 or 1001 we never want them to forget this the tistic show we showed them I will illustrate this in the room so they'll speed see in person what one out of five to look like so if the entire room was sexually active What could when I was five look like and I'm telling you I we ran into a young man who saw this program as a sixth grader and he remember to just the cystic because of that it was straight and it really helps them in real life and it's really I'm grapple with that statistic we'll talk about the emotional impact of this the third wrist so we had teen pregnancy test and then the emotional part of the memory all involved in sexual relationship and we'll talk about how a lot of teenagers don't consider that as a risk they don't think about the heartache the Heartbreak that can happen if you create a special bond with someone through how difficult it could be well for just high school we want to go a little deeper to really help him identify healthy relationships so we'll talk about teen dating violence in the red flags that can come on high school student now we cannot talk about  without bringing up technology these are digital native so we'll talk about s****** and really we want them to see the big picture if they make a decision to send a  or even Park pictures to make it a boyfriend or girlfriend and that person may promise not to share it with anyone but we all know that relationships can change and they could decide to share with the few of their friends and their friends and share with you you know what many will have this private a picture on their device and you really have lost control of where that picture that video go some of those dots move represent their peers it could represent are Grandma we have no idea so we really want them to see the big picture of thing I am with the and what it could cause we even we'll talk about some of the laws and you're going to see that in the other program how we address texting a little bit more alright stuff that's a success why wait so that you can avoid obtain for STDs and emotional hurt and pain. This next program is called determined to succeed it's a great bottle up a success because we're going to review a lot of the big ideas and a successor will review on teen pregnancy and STD and on but what makes this program will talk about how to why way now determined to succeed where talk about how to actually do it I'm there but there are a lot of practical pieces in this program and ultimately we want to talk about five common pressures that teenagers face they have  as they go through their teenage years they're likely are going to have to deal with some of these pressures so we'll give them strategies on how to overcome them all right so hormones will talk about stuff when your own body pressuring you to have  what do you do right well I'm out till you little pieces from each of the pressure that we'll talk about ultimate lie with hormones we want them to know that hormone are chemicals that are produced in their brain that sense and they can impact the way they feel about  and sexual activity and they'd be hormones are most active during their teenage years so we will encourage them to think about do you understand what's happening in their body is normal the feeling they're feeling is normal but you have to make healthy choices in light of that you have to figure out how to control those hormones and not let this hormones control you and Kai how to make unhealthy choices and what we want them to hear loud and clear that is that although their hormones are changing they are capable of controlling these desires they can't it's going to take a lot of self-control and self-discipline I will talk to me what exactly that can look like for them write another pressure that you that was on that list was loved a lot of teenagers say they had  because they were in love but it's just a crush okay so we'll talk about the different characteristics of love and brush and I will even give them some scenarios to help them really have a good handle on on Love and War is it a crush okay sexual health program we're going to talk about sexual abuse and we'll have that same message throughout the entire program for 6th graders will go a little deeper and all of our programs I want to show you what that looks like here will talk about sexual abusers they can identify them so we'll talk about this some unique characteristics of sexual abusers is usually someone that you know that they're not just in person but also on the internet they usually come with a promise or a threat and I say that sexual abusers may ask you to look at inappropriate pictures or videos of people who have little to no clothes on they may have to look at your body when you have little to no clothes on her lame a want you to show them your body when you have very little even try to touch the sexual area of your body and when we say sexual area were talking about the areas that are typically covered by swimsuit there are three things we encourage the students to do they ever find themselves in that dangerous situation we've done it stop no one has the right to do that to you try to get away from that person scream kick do whatever you got to do to get away and you can always go and tell an adult go home to your parents go to school tell a trusted adult there well the next pressure fuel pressure is classic pressure will I will build up some scenarios will have some fun with this one to help them identify Pier pressure and really have the courage to say no boo leave them with a tool for refusal skills now there are many ways to say no but we want to give them a tool on how to say no if they're in a dating relationship a lot of people end up not saying no to that person dating because I don't want to hurt their feelings it really concerned about their feelings so here's just one way you can say no in a nice way if you choose now you're going to say no you actually got to use the word know I'll be very serious about the Hague know I don't and you can follow it up with the eye statement say no I'm starting to feel uncomfortable know I'm waiting to do those things and usually when you're saying no to a person I know you're not saying it to the person you're saying it to the activity they're suggesting right just change the activity they know I'm starting to feel uncomfortable let's go for a walk in Stater let's go grab some food instead and if you're going to be successful in this she actually got to execute the change to get up go leave the house get out of that situation so this is just one way that are in one tool that can used to say now well this next the media we all know the media to young people in the way that they stink and I'm really the what they decide to do so will say hey awesome simple people learn how to master the media you have to think for yourself if you sell your things and nowadays we all know that they have really hard to avoid I'm so we'll to have a conversation about and avoiding it now I'm this program like I said we addressed thing and I just want you to see that we even bring up the juvenile Sexton Law will reap the penal code and help them understand a few legal here in the state of Texas to get involved with texting okay now and all of our programs you and I wanted you to know I was done here and determined to succeed will share with them statistics from the CDC they surveyed thousands of teenagers every year and they they they show how many teenagers are actually not having and as you walk through statistics from age 13 to 18 conclusion we make it's like actually most teenagers are not having  now they're probably not hearing that amongst their friends they probably are not thinking that maybe as a teenager that's thinking  is something they need to figure out and get into but we want them to know the decision not to have or actually the majority they're not alone in that decision of the research shows that most teenagers you have they regretted they wish they'd never would have done it all right so that's a big bad review of determine 60 and we're answer that question how to wait given impractical to learn how to overcome the pressures they may face to have now this last programs to treat them to succeed I love it cuz this program is one of zoom in and focused on the law so what does the law of the State of Texas have to say about teenagers and sexual activity so indecent exposure decency what's the child will I'm sure many many stories true stories about people young people and on some of the consequences legal consequences of  I love his inform students to help them make a healthy decision but I also help you quit them to protect themselves from becoming the victim when it comes to some of these I'm  crimes so that's freedom to succeed focusing on the law so that sang For Success determined to succeed and freedom to 16 on those three sexual health programs that we have available and will love to answer any questions that you may have yeah so we have I'm a couple different options one which is where a kind of like what I talked about earlier we offer all of our programs to have a parent program before hands would be content that your students will see you plus about 10 to 15 minutes of questions answers resources Tools application to help when their kids come home with questions and then that way if they a lot of the time if they're students or if the parents see the program they're more willing to have their students yet I'm cuz they know exactly what is going to be presented to their child and then the other option is if you're needing some sort of written form of what the program is going to be I'm not all districts use that only some do but we have synopsis of the program and we can use that if you need the written out copy of the script and we asked if I would be in a general public area like or at a district level building to where it can people can go in and read it but it stays in one specific place anybody else having is that I remember the parents being able to access and I see it it says I'm sorry can you repeat that 600 yes so each program is an hour long and width. I'm 25 students sessions so some schools can't accommodate a full hour just because our schedules and so we ask that it not be under 45 minutes so what get submitted from the program if it's less than an hour is active pieces in the games so we try to help keep the students engaged and they gets broken up throughout the program but we understand we're trying to accommodate the school because sometimes I just an hour is just too much time to take away from a class redo the schedule but yes you get up to 50 seconds in a day and so we can do that where it's one day being a middle school with five sessions and one day being a high school or we can do come by weather for today at the middle school yes so based off size the Middle School I believe it's 200 is that correct Crystal in high school at 3 yes yeah we actually have noticed with our sexual health program surprisingly that when you put male and female together kind of try to outdo each other on maturity so they are more engaged and actually cause less of the scene then vs. if we have it separated by gender but if you wanted to be separated by gender we could do that yes oh that would be perception but we sure could perfect thank you guys so much for the opportunity and yeah if you have any other questions or concerns feel free to either email or call me and I can help facilitate have a great rest your day bye even though they do do it anymore right now one thing I do like to say bad to the high school is a sexual violence you know that's something that wasn't in the program when we did it for the house do that another thing that you can question the students they send a follow up with percentages you know Student Center what are you what do you think will be the do you think you'll be I feel like here's what's new to me small groups but we'll have to focus group are number for visits smaller mr.
