FHS Art Student, Presley Kirkland Selected As Winner for QISD District Christmas Card Design Contest

QISD Ford High School and Thompson Middle School art students are invited each year to submit artwork to be placed on the cover of the District Christmas Card.  The Christmas card will be sent to friends of QISD and surrounding school districts with the original artwork displayed on the cover.  FHS Art teacher Thelma Scribner and TMS Art teacher Ashley Gandy set guidelines which included this year’s theme “A Country Christmas” and a greeting.  The students choose their medium limited to map pencils, prisma colors, watercolors and markers.

The finalists are sent to QISD Administration, where the winner is chosen by a panel of judges.  The cards are later returned to the students so that they may send their card to a favorite teacher, coach or staff member on their campus. “This encourages students to think about those people who have helped or guided them in a positive way,” said Ms. Scribner.  “Last year we received many positive responses from teachers and staff regarding the notes they received.”

“I would like to congratulate Presley Kirkland, 10th grade Ford High School Art II student, for being selected as the winner of the District Christmas card contest,” said Superintendent Debra Crosby.  “I would like to also thank the many art students who submitted their artwork for the contest.  It is very difficult to select just one design when we receive so many wonderful entries.  Congratulations, Presley!”
